Reading Strategy Freebie

Welcome (back?)!!!

I have posters, bookmarks, single page and half page collections of Reading Strategies all in one pdf. Click the pic below to download it.
Fonts are by Kimberly Geswein (KG Be Still and Know; KG Lego House) & Jennifer Jones of Hello Literacy (Hello Basic)Graphics are from Scrappin Doodles
Here's more of a close up...

They might look familiar-ish to you...as both Deanna Jump and Cara Carroll have DARLING posters for them.

Those two have such amazing graphics of these strategies that I didn't want to make it seem like I was taking their work and making it my own. Cuz I wouldn't do that!

But in our district's work with adopting the Teachers' College Reading & Writing Project workshop model next year a group of us had a bit of discussion on using Flippy Dolphin over Flip Flop Froggy & Skippy Frog over Skippy Scott. So I made this set using the specific strategies we decided upon.

But before sharing with you guys, I contacted Deanna & Cara and they both gave me their blessing to share these with you. They, of course, both said that the strategies were not their original idea...Love their kindness, creativity and humility!!

  4. Thank you so much for the daily deals! Just scooped up Finding Proof 'cuz it was already on my Wish List! I have the reading strategy posters on my wall and plan to put the smaller size on sticks to use during guided reading. Have you seen the careful Caterpillar strategy, reading through the whole word? I used it this year but do not have a poster that matches. Just a thought :)

  7. We are loving the daily deals idea! We grabbed your STAR Reader pack yesterday! We'll probably grab today's deal too because we've planned to work on integrating more writing into reading for this coming school year. Also, thanks for the great freebie! Love the student prompts and examples!

  9. Your Finding Proof and Star Readers packs are AMAZING, Lisa! After teaching a gifted cluster of second graders for 5 years my district is doing away with the clustering model for K-2. I'll have a much broader range of readers next year and these are so perfect for all abilities!

I love your daily deal idea! I need to follow your lead and get back in the swing !of blogging, too! My husband has us going all over the place this summer so as soon as we stand still long enough I'll get on it!

I love seeing all of your amazingness and hope you're having a great summer!

  15. These are adorable and my posters could really use an update! Thanks for making it a freebie!
I do have to say though, of course Deanna and Cara gave permission, it wasn't their idea. The original idea came from a teacher named April Shilb. Granted, her posters looked very different using old school word art, but I feel bad that bloggers everywhere are recreating them and she doesn't get credit anymore for this fabulous idea. Just a little fyi :)

    1. Andrea - Thanks so much for sharing about April! Both Deanna & Cara said that the idea wasn't theirs to begin with. I am curious about April - does she have a website/blog? I couldn't find her on google. I'd love to be able to thank her!
